Spilled Oil on exhaust manifold

I accidently spilled a little oil on my exhaust manifold on my other car. Some of the oil got in between the manifold and the heat shield. Now it smokes when I run the engine. Will it just burn away after time or with it catch fire? I'm concerned that it's confined in that small area so it'll get real hot. I didn't think it was much oil, just a few drops. Any suggestions?

throw a very little bit of kitty litter on it if you can, it should soak up the oil and eventually blow away.

The thing is I can't see where the oil is...the spot it originally hit is clean, but I can't see the under side of the manifold. I tried pouring some water in between. It worked for a little while then it started smoking again.

depends on how much you are talking about...

Just a few drops, well leave the hood open, crank the car and let it just burn off..... it will just smoke a bit and then should burn off pretty fast when it heats up.. You can just watch it to make sure it burns off ok...

with the engine cool, you can spray some brake cleaner on the area and wash the oil away.

Thats what I would do too. Brake clean works good for getting rid of oil spills.

thanks guys, I'll give it a try. The only problem is that I can't spray the bottom of the manifold. I can't reach there. It's a 3800 series engine in an Impala.

I just let the engine run for a while longer and kept an eye on it. It burnt off. Thanks for the help.
