dyno question

i was watching pinks on the speed channel and this guy dynoed his car prior to the race. he stated that he blew the engine on the dyno. now this makes me nervous about going and getting a dyno done. do the guys who test the cars have some type of insurance if something goes wrong?

NO,you sign a waiver, excluding them from responsibility....its up to you,to make sure your car can handle a WOT run....it should I imagine you held her wide open a few times,no?

There's no reason why your engine should blow from a simple dyno pull if it runs fine on the street. I wouldn't worry about it.

However, if the dyno guys are TUNING your car on the dyno, and don't know what they're doing, then sure, anything can happen.

the main thing that will "blow" your engine on a dyno is detonation.. this can be caused from a combination of timing too advanced, too much heat, and/or too much compression (which usually will only detonate if its too hot)... make sure you have a fan blowing on the front of your car when you have it dyno'd and "remind" the guy that will be in your car to pay attention to the temp gauge to make sure it doesn't get too hot... if you have nitrous or forced induction, make sure your tune is good and that your running correct plugs

If you can take your car up to 55,000rpms, then you should be fine on the dyno.

Dont worry about the engine, our cars are beast and can take some dyno runs. If my car can run all summer in 100 degree+ heat, then your car is fine.
