That is normal. You can get a 4.6K ohm resistor from Radio Shack, and disconnect the connection on your tranny for the skip shift, and put the resitor in on the forward end of the connection and then secure it with a silicone, or some kind of electrical safe goop. Then it will be gone, you will still get the light on the dash, but it will not do anything.
Or you could buy the SLP or Jet skip shift eliminator and install it.

Theres nothing wrong with it, skip shift will activate when your temp is >170 deg and throttle is <35% and your speed is 15-20 mph. Spend the $20 get the eliminator.

Or get 4.10's and you'll hit the 17mph mark in no time! I had bought the Hurst one I think, and it sat in my toolbox for over a year. It never bothered me that much at all, just get it over 17mph, or push the gas pedal a little more than you usually do and it will not bother you.
If you ever get tunning, or if you buy LS1Edit it can be deleted as well as many other sensors!

Peace,
Craig.

That is what I did, I got LS1 Edit and just deleted it, along with all the EGR and AIR stuff.
