Window stabilizing question

I recently decided to add component speakers to the front of my 95 TA and decided that while I was there I would replace both window motors, which were dying.

With the door panel off I noticed that the felt on the opposite side of the window stabilizer had come off and the bare metal was the reason my window has vertical scratches in it, and the whole window rattles if I shut the door with the window down.

I have tried to find the felt from GM Parts stores but I think it might all be part of the window trim. Do I have to replace the window trim or is there an alternative?

It looked like the felt was held on by a metal casing that was rivited to the rubber trim. Is there a universal felt strip that I could rivit in its place?

Just wondering if anybody else has tackled this problem.

Thanks Guys

I just replaced one in my Z. I noticed one was broken when I had the door off to replace speakers. Fortunately, it just gave my window a very tiny scuff before I noticed it. The cost something like 8 bucks at the stealership You have to buy the whole metal piece with the felt attached. Just ask for a window guide

You can pick them up from a dealer for about 4 or 5 bucks.

thanks guys,

I attempted to post a reply earlier but it didn't post.
The Stabilizers are intact and in good shape (the piece that bolts to the door frame. My problem is the felt that is on the opposite side of the window. It attaches to the window trim.

I found out that I will have to replace that entire trim piece on both sides.
Retail is around 50 dollars a side, but I plan on e-mailing Jason Kromer to see if I can get the pieces cheaper.

Does anybody know if I will have to pull the window out to put on the the rubber trim? I haven't put lock-tite on the bolts yet just to make sure I won't need to remove them.

Thanks Guys

I have some new outer strips for my car, but have not put them on yet. It looks like you might need to take the mirror off, but maybe not anything else. I'll probably make a "how to", but it may be a while down the road.

Shoebox Your website is amazing!

I hate driving my car with the door panel off, but I'm going to just wait until I get the new strips before I button it back up. I'll finish cutting out my speaker baffles for now.

I got all the information I needed from your website Rob. The mirror comes off and the two soft rubber end pieces too. And of course the inner door panel comes off. What helped was your window motor replacement instructions on removing the switch and panel screws. Removing the weather strip wasn't too difficult, just took a lot of pressure. Pull inward and upward. Putting the new one on was tougher because those clips need to make two moves to latch. The top portion has to go over the crimped lip of the door and the bottom of the clip has to find a small hole. I think there are 7 or 8 of them and they sort of fight each other in the process. Pushing the strip in one direction so the clip can catch one place moves the clip away from the other place it is supposed be.

So the window can stay in the door? Is that the vibe I'm getting because Hallelujah to that!
