Cleaning the engine bay

I just picked up a 98 SS and the engine bay is in need of a cleaning. What's the best way to go about doing this. I was told to use an engine cleaner and then hose off with water. Is this safe to do?

You bet...there's nothing especially water sensitive in there, so go for it. What I do is spray Simple Green all over everything...especially down on the heads and everything that's greasy...use a toothbrush to clean it off. Then take a hose (I use a pressure washer, but not directly on the engine), and just rinse the engine off...don't flood it or anything, but at least clean it out. Then run the motor for 5 minutes or so to burn out the rest of that water, and it'll look great- follow up with some Gunk Engine Brute or something.

This is EASY!

Just cover the MAF plug and the fuse box and the PCM...I used a plastic bag and duct tape......then spray "gunk" engine bright over EVERYTHING.....let it sit for a minute.....then spray off.....then use compressed air to dry,and wipe with rags.......done!
