freekin oil

i ran my car for the first time mobil 1 and it has drank 1 quart and 1/2 in the last 2 months.....5w30 i put in it you guys it would be ok too put 10w40 i dont know what the first number means i just know that the one after the w is how thick the oil is can someone tell me if this will be ok to do this...or what i should do....CAN SOMEBODY TELL ME WHAT THE MEASUREMENTS MEAN PLEASE...SOMEONE GAVE ME THIS LINK ONCE AND IT DID NOT HELP.....

Haha, they are both the thickness of the oil One is the thickness of the oil when cold, and the other when at operating tempurature. The basic rule of thumb is 10w40 for anything with 100k plus if it feels like a loose motor. On your motor 10w30 should be fine.

the first # is the weight of the oil hence the W after the #. 10 weight is thicker. if you drive your car above 3 grand all the time it will burn oil all ls1's doo so try thicker if your worried about it.
