fiberglass boxes

I have been contemplating making a fiberglass sub box for two 12" subs in my cargo area of the hatch... Have any of you seen/'tried this method? Would any of you recommend this over 5/8" MDF?

I wan't something to replace my current set up, which is about a 13" tall, angled, non-ported box that sits on top of the fuel tank, and spans almost the full length of my hatch area. I am installing a 4point cage soon, and that is forcing me to rid myself of the current setup.

I figure f/g is a lot lighter than MDF, but either way, I would be pulling the box at the race track..

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

I have an "freak of an audiophile" of a friend that likes to dissect stuff like that. He's got tons of diagnostic equipment at his house. (this guy sucks to watch movies with, because he can't sit still and has to screw with his settings on his KILLER surround sound setup the entire time) I asked him about fiberglass boxes recently and he gave me the big thumbs down on it. He said he's tried it before and the fiberglass isn't dense enough.

I have always used 3/4" MDF for my boxes.

Re: fiberglass boxes

If you can do the fiberglass, I say go for it. Not only will it give you a little more air space than a wood box, but it will be quite a bit lighter. Which is always a plus. Also, 5/8" is a borderline thickness to use for a couple 12s. 3/4" is typically recommended.
