New Speaker Problems!

So awhile ago I ordered Kickers (qty.2) KS60 [6.5 Coaxial w/20mm tweeter] & (qty.1) Kicker KS40 [4" Coaxial]

Wellllllllllllllll......what I didn't know is that the mid speakers were the subs and the door and rear speakers were just mid-range.

So now I have mid-range/tweeters in the door and middle section but the middle speakers are still trying to be like subs and the tweeters on them are inoperable. So I have loss bass and now there is a rattling with the middle speakers because the metal sheet is vibrating where the mid speakers are mounted on. When I hold it down on the edges of the speaker where its screwed in; it stops making that vibrating sound.

So this is how it is:

Door Speakers: 6 1/2" Coaxial with 20mm tweeter
Middle Speakers: 6 1/2" Coaxial with 20mm tweeter
Rear Speakers: 4" Coaxial

I'm guessing my options are either to get a custom sub-woofer box for the rear and just modify the settings were all bass goes to the rear or replace the brand new mid-range speakers with sub speakers...but then I'll just have $120 speakers laying around...ugh..

Anways, what can I do to get rid of the vibration with the middle speakers? I notice the stock speakers had gaskets, was that there to suppress the vibration or what?

Try using a little dynamat or making a rubber gasket for the mids since different speakers will make the same noise if it's just how they're mounted. As for the two/three way speakers not handling the bass like others that's not necessarily true, they handle the bass just as well, just they have the capability for really clean highs, just because you aren't using the rear tweeters isn't a bad thing, just you got speakers that are overkill for what they do.

I ordered Infinity Reference Series speakers a while ago. I bought (4) 6012si's and (2) 40121's. I noticed that when I installed them the middle speakers were the bass. It sounds a little different than the stock Delco speaker setup I had but the music is very clear now. I'm very satisfied.

You're saying that the middle speakers don't make any bass? Weird.

There is bass but its not great and it kinda sounds a little crappy. Compared to the stock 6.5 mid-bass I had previously on. Now I'm looking for some 6 1/2 subwoofers but I keep finding like little cheap ones below $40 and I want some good ones. You see I always thought the mid speakers were the same as the door speakers but they are not. Thats why I made the mistake of buying two pairs of Kicker's KS60s'. Also, I really don't want to spend +$300 bucks on some custom subwoofer box. Cuz...I'm going to have to get the box and thats a bit costy, then the subwoofer speakers which is more $$$$, then the amp which is also $$$, then all the wiring/installation. Forget that.

I might end up with a pair with no use but I get Kicker products 70% off once a year so I only paid 39.00 as oppose to $100-125.00 (Depending where you go) so It wont be a big blow to me. Anyone know some good 6 1/2 midbass speakers?

I don't know anything about the stock systems in the 4th gen's...but is it possible that GM set the system up to just filter the lows to the mid-mounted speakers and then filter the highs and mids to the front and rears? If so, you could just re-wire the speakers from the headunit to the speakers and things should be ok I would think, and then you have a sub sitting in the rear. Or, go with 3 ways all the way around (which is my setup in my 3rd gen) plus a 12" Infinity Sub sitting in the back (soon to be in a stealth location, Thanks Spyderking69). But I don't know how the 4th gens are wired up? Just a suggestion.

As far as I know the front speakers are regular speakers, but the middle and rear speakers are split. The middle are the lows and the rears are the high notes.

Yea, so keep the speakers he bought, and re-wire the mid speakers, and throw a stealth sub in the back

I did the same thing with Infinity reference speakers. They sounded very bad...had to replace with factory speakers just to restore the bass.
