After knowing what was wrong with my engine, since day 2, or so. I finally sucked it up and went for a rebuild...The right way. The vibes got worse after a nice redline, I was tired of seeing oil pressure randomly drop, and I was irritated.
Upon initial tear down, this is what I learned. 1st, If the pushrods are not black coated they are junk for guide plates. You need to read into the whole hardened deal. 2nd, don`t listen to a "buddy" when he says "you don`t need to balance that!" Crank balancing is cruical.
Ended up getting an eagle cast steel "stocker", nice piece for cast steel I may say. I took all the goodies to a roundy round engine specialist for balancing. Replaced all the needed items...sucks throwing $$ in the trash.
Swapped to a moroso oil pan, had to change the oil pump though. I had a 3/4" and needed a 5/8", for the pickup. Pan is nice, with the exception of light rusting here and there... lil cleaning thats all.
Replaced pushrods w/new comps, yeah the good ones. Last, for my sake added some cantons up top. I had no fitment issues, but had to grind my AIR plugs, and adjust my OTVC wires. Note: get steel reinforced gaskets...
I am extremely happy now! My hotrod is running smooth as ever! Definately noticable and even a little "crisper". All done in less than a month too.
Even though I have had to do somethings twice I am proud to have built it myself!
