New Banner Idea

For a new banner I propose a new idea. Instead of having a jpeg banner why not make a gif banner and have a past to present theme to it where it'll start out w/ a 1st gen then transform to 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and finally 5th gen. Just a neat idea that I think would give the site a little nice extra touch

Jason has voiced his concern about making the site easy to load for those that are still on low speed dial up internet. A slow loading site is an immediate negative first impression.

I like that idea, just need to make sure these ideas will be "quick load" for the slower dial up speeds too.

Well I talked to a chopper and it wouldn't be a ridiculously huge file. It all depends on the number of frames you wanna put in it. It can still be reasonable for 56kers. Or you could also just make a separate them like there has been before and you can switch to it or whatnot

I mean if you wanna be picky about file sizes not like to be offensive or anything im just stating that my sig is only 20kb while yours is 90kb thats 4.5 times bigger than mine

Sounds like a cool idea to me. An animated gif doesn't necessarily mean a huge file. On the other hand with the amount of frames it might take to make it look right it may be of decent size. I don't think we can really know unless somebody tries to make one for a test run. I would take a hack at it, but there are others here that I feel are more qualified.

I remember scott (gradeZ28) made a banner a while back, i'm sure if he added a little color to it, it'd fit quite nicely with your current format. And darren is actually right, size-wise, we can do the work to load faster than the current banner (which is rather large). Just a thought.

Here you go this is what it could look like.

Before
Name: 1.jpg
Views: 46
Size: 47.3 KB
After
Name: 2.jpg
Views: 47
Size: 49.1 KB

If you could make the google ad wider and shorter it would look even better.

Guys, please remember that the current banner is TEMPORARY...we are working on a few ideas already...just bear with us and give us some time.

This comes up everytime the banner changes...even for the holiday season. There will always be people who don't like the new banner.... We understand that we can't please everybody, but we like to try to get the majority happy.

See ya on the road,
Matt
