Anyone can hint something toward me on this let me know.
My brothers car is running a 383. I started it earlier and i was under the hood adjusting the carb, it has some noise coming from the back of the motor. It actually sounds like something is hitting on the distributor. I turned it counter clockwise and it got louder but quiter going clockwise. could it just be timing? ![]() |

Counter-clockwise is advance, turning the distributer clock-wise retards the timing. I would advise you get a timing light on it to set base timing. The timing could be getting advanced to the point where it starts detonating/pinging at idle.

What kind of distributer is on it,is it a racing one that might need to be shimmed.During assembly did it go in hard.I could also be timing, maybe your a tooth off on the distibuter.Check your firing order 18436572.Good luck.
