Poping steering when hot
Hi z28 experts help please i have a z28 manual 1998 Euro spec living in England, just lowered it Eibach pro kit , Eibach sway bars and bilstein shocks.
Now after about 6 weeks use the steering pops creaks and groans but only can hear this when car is parking therefore slow speeds and less engine noise so only time i notice it. but its getting louder as time goes on its ok (less loud) when cold but gets noisy when warm , checked for obvious stuff no binding on any of the mods i have done. did read in another thread that someone mentioned greasing lower steering joints, so just off to check if this is possible. or is it the steering rack going end of lne on me at 50,000 miles Any help appriciated thanks CM ![]() |

Update
I have noticed that the angle of the lower suspension ball joints has changed a lot since the car has been lowered they now are sitting at 25 degrees or more from the horizontal all the time.
Wonder if lowering the car by 3 inch at the front was a bad idea as the lower ball joints are sitting at an angle and the load is on one side of the ball joint cup face. Could be this is the cause of the binding Anyone else had this problem. I have some other springs coming from SLP (hope to be same as SS ride height lowered by only 1 inch) and now have a dispute with Eibach as this kit (pro kit) seems to have lowered the car much more than the web site suggests seems about 3 inches lower much more than it should be 1.2 inch on the Eibach website Pity as the car looks nice at this height but impractical as the exhaust Y pipe bits tend to ground out on obstacles that our nice government place everywhere to slow us all down. |
