98' TA rims... pitting

My sister has a 98 trans am, with stock wheels. They are the stock chrome wheels, and are pitting pretty bad. These wheels are aluminum with a chrome coating correct? Anything I can do with these? Can I sand them down to aluminum and polish them or get them powder coated? One of my buddy's brothers powder coats so I might be able to get a deal.

Are they even worth the trouble??? Any input is appreciated.
