Difference in the old GTO and the new

Ok so I came across the specs of the old GTO vs the new GTO.

This is pretty much what it came out like.

Old:

360 HP 445 ft-lbs

like 3650 lbs

4 speed manual

14.8 quarter mile @ 96.00

New:

350 hp 365 ft-lbs

3725

6 speed manual

13.62 quater mile @ 104.78

So looking at the stats, you have the old car being 75 lbs lighter. It has 10 more hp and like 80 ft-lbs more torque

Looks like the old one should kill the new GTO. But the comparison says it was over a full second slower in the quarter mile.

So is the performance difference primarily due to the better gearing of the 6 speed? Aerodynamics (most likely not at 100 mph speeds). ?

What is the reason for the much better performance of the new GTO, even though on paper (yes I know) it should probably be getting spanked?

The HP and TQ specs of the old GTO are Gross HP and TQ figures. The new GTO are SAE Net HP and TQ figures. There is a huge difference!! Gross HP is measured at the flywheel with no engine driven devices attached. The water pump, power steerinng, alt ect.... none of these were accounted for. If you take these devices into account the Net HP of the old GTO would have been less than 300 HP or right at it. The second factor was tire technology. Back then the best tire was a polyglass radial. These tires have pathetic tracksion. today even the sicklyest of passenger car radials have better tracksion.
Combine the corrected HP and the better gearing of the T-56 and tracksion the new GTO is unquestionably faster in stock vs stock trim.
