What do you do when your significant other's parents are ignorant conservative admitted racists who call the President the N word? How do I cope with their ignorant crap if I have to be around them? It's so infuriating how ignorant they are.

They keep talking about the "N word" President being a communist and a socialist in the same breath, and they are members of a labor union.

how can i keep from putting them out of my misery?

Well much as you may not like it they are entitled to their opinion as are you. The "N" word as you put it only has power when you give it power otherwise it's just a word. Would it bother you less if they just called him a piece of sh#t or some other demeaning word/saying?? I have a black friend that got a text on election night that said he should carry a bottle of water with him tomorrow cause there would be "A lot of salty crackers" around. Sounds like it comes from both sides, I just choose to ignore the ones I dont want to listen to

just stay away from them and let it be known you dont agree with their views. Heck Im married and have the right to pick and choose the times to be around my in laws, although I have absolutely no problem with them. I have NEVER seen the "N" word thrown around so much lately when it comes to this, and it infuriates me everytime I hear it. I just think I lost my best friend of over 20 years over this unfortunately. And for all the IGNORANT skinhead or skinhead wannabees out there with their ridiculous views, I hope one of them never crosses me the wrong way, because I DREAM about choking the life out of one of them with my bear hands.

As said you just need to ignore their words. If it really bothers you let them know that you do not feel the same way and ask that they respect your views and refrain from using the racist words in your presence. Let them know that you do not look at them any difeerent just because you do not agree so that you keep peace within,
Even though they are not your views you should still respect them for thiers no matter how wrong they truly are.
unfortunatley thier generation was raised from parents that viewed blacks as negros. Still in 1964 they were still not equal as they should have been and were referred to as negro in the papers and had their own water fountain and so forth. It is hard for them to learn a different way when that is all they learned.

My father was very racist. I was raised that way and was very racist myself till I turned an adult and actually got to know twins teens who are black. They taight me that recism is nothing more then ignorance in action. I raised my kids to respect all races equal. I am so glad that I learned the truth ...

Well I would like to say a few words. Now my father was not crazy about white folks but we came out the ghetto and moved to a big fancy house in a white nieghborhood. And I went to a all white highschool maybe 25%black MAYBE. But when I started bringing my white friends home he went crazy. Dad how so do you remember what YOU did not me. But he got over it. Yes it took time but he got over it. Your inlaws do have the rt to say whats on there mines. But the sad part about it is what good does it do.

Be your own man and keep your kool. But dont back down from how you feel about BLACK PEOPLE. Its like this I LOVE YA TO DEATH. We have built our brotherhood off this forum and if you called me and said MICHAEL i really need you if i can you got it. Color does'nt mean anything. Now yes If someone white was to call me a NIG. Truth be know he would be laying face first on the pavement. And I mean that from the bottom of my heart.

I work for everything I own and my family are respectfull to everyone they come in contact with. We aint nor have we ever been on wellfare and everyone in my family has been to college rather its tech or university.

Yes we may seen diffrent from other BLACK families but its about your life and what you want for your kids. I know I went on a rant but it ticks me off when folks cant really say whats on there mines. But they use that word and thinks that solves it all. No it doesn't it just get folks hurt. In the area where im from if someone were to even let just a lil of that word out they would be in a brawl. SERIOUSLY......Its hurtfull to alot of folks. Good luck bro.

Bail I am glad you posted. It always seems that there is a lot of predjudice on the white man side but it is nice to hear that a black man also grew up with the same issue just on the opposite color.

It is hard to break away from your youth teachings but I personally believe that you are a greater and better person if you do.

I am ashamed to have told what I did but it is a good lesson to teach as no matter if you are white or black or any other color or race... Racism is ignorance and as you said hurtful. Very hurtful.
