It makes no noise at all. Buit I noticed a antifreeze smell and small leak down there. I'm now thinking that the antifreeze is wetting the belt. It's gonna be another great weekend under the Z

found out it's the water pump leaking. Now I get to spend a day under and over my Z. Also may change cap and rotor while I can see it.

just bought the new delco opti..$220.00 mechanics price what does this thing do??? Worst part is I don't think there was anything wrong with the old one(79,000 miles) but since the water pump was out I replaced it.

The opti is chevys complicated way of saying distributor. It is strategically placed under your water pump so when the water pump goes it leaks onto your opti. The 93 is non-vented which means the water just sits in there trapped. Your car will then start to studder at high rpm and slowly get worse till it starts throwing codes and not running at all. Probably a good idea to replace it although for the price you paid you surely got a remanufactured one. Since the brand new ones have the same problem its probably just as good.

I thought it was a new one like I said i got it at mechanics price he did say it was about $400 retail, does that sound right. Is it really just a cap and rotor??? It's in now and so is the water pump darn! the car feels the same. I guess the old one is still good. Is there a market for used ones??

There are so many things that can make your car act up. Have you scanned the PCM for codes?

New ones are offered on GMParts direct for less than 400 so that may be right.

No codes found...the car runs fine Like I said I only replaced it because the water pump was gone and that seemed to be the right time to do it. The only thing I have not replaced is the wires
