    problems in high rpms

i bought my 95 z28 in the spring of 2001 and it ran great. i had no problems with it (performance wise). i t was really fast (to me) and fun to drive around. now that i've gotten over my three month period of spinning kiddies and toppen it out at midnight south of town, i don't really "get up on it" that much. most of my driving is in town and pretty slow, but when i go out of town i usually try run it real hard through the first three gears(its an automatic). when i first bought the car, it would go up to the solid orange and almost to 6000 rpm and then shift, but now sometimes it won't even get to the checkered orange(5000 rpm) and the engine makes weird noises(like it is floating the valves) and that's when i let off the gas. it doesn't do it all the time though, sometimes it runs just fine and other times it doesn't. i was wondering if anybody else has had this happen to them and if they have any suggestions to fix it. thanks.

My friend's 95' auto. z-28 get's up to around 4500-5000 rpm's and it starts banging out like it is hitting the rev limiter. He hasn't gotten fixed yet, but I will let you know when he does if it helps you.

Mine did it too. I could not figure it out seeing I had just had the plugs & wires changed. Then after a bunch of no luck attempts to solve I decieded to change my somewhat new plugs & wires again. I found a very small crack in the #8 plug wire boot. Then I found another slightly cracked boot. After I changed the wires & plugs & took it for a ride & wala!!! No more missing.... Ran strong once again. I say make sure you are not missing anything with the wires. A little arc can cause serious driving issues. I ended up wasting $$$ on an opti & coil & a bunch of other things I didn't need..

I had something similar, it would "click" real loud at high rpm especially when I floored it.

Turned out to be the coil wire, there was a lot of corrosion in the boot, then eventually the boot just fell off the wire. So, I agree, it could be in plug wires or spark plug so check that out first.
