it all depends... how are emision laws in your state?
If they are non-existant, then you can forgo a lot of the stuff people like myself have to deal with.
Getting that out of the way, if you have no laws i say hedmans shortie headers without the AIR injection tubes would be the cheapest at 110 for the two. You have to order the y pipe seperate. Hedman also makes a set with AIR tubes. Hooker makes a set with air tubes that are also shorties with a y pipe.
Then there is Edelbrock, SLP and the worst of them all... Flowtech... do not get them as they are the smallest set you can get. They are worthless and the money could be spent elsewhere. SLP is the most $$$ because they are stainless and when you get them coated, can easily reach near $900 where the hedmans with coated headers, same as SLP's, will cost you around 360. I sugest you get them coated as headers will drasticly raise engine bay temps and will cause heat soak into your starter and kill it off. Jet Hot makes the best by far IMO. You have a 87 305 with the peanut cam, so unless your gunna go open headers, its not gunna sound that mean, but its a step in the right direction. I sugest looking into a good cat back and a new high flow cat. Catco makes the best bang for the buck imo and thats why i went with it. I also got the Hooker cat back because of its low price, but there are many other ones out there from Flowmaster to Banks exhaust. I hope that helped and if you need anymore help, just post!

    thanks...
there are emision laws in michigan but hey who doesnt break the law...
the cat is comming off as soon as i choose which set of headers ill buy. i already have cat back flowmasters on. i have one of those high output 305's with the cam from the 350. with the flowmasters alone the car already sounds fairly mean I can easily drown out new GT's soo the sound and tone is already good enough. although a louder sound and deeper tone is always welcome... im looking for HP.

Yea they have a.i.r tubes and come with a y-pipe. i think they are $360 from summit and if you want to get them coated i think they cost around $500 from jet-hot.

I brought Hooker Long tubes at a local speed shop for $165. But the bad thing is that they wouldn't fit. I had an auto trans and the collecter was to close to it, if my car was straight gear, it might have worked. I had to take them back and get shortys, so watch what you buy.

I use a set of Hooker Shorty headers, they are a quality piece. They fit and seal good, and aren't limited to only one size of pipe diameter like a few other brands. I 've run Hookers on other cars, highly recommend them...
