    2001 Keyless Entry Help

I just bought a 2001 V6 Camaro, and it seems to not have come with keyless entry, at least the dealer didn't have remotes. Is there an easy way to determine if it does/doesn't have it? If it does, can I order new remotes? If not, does anyone have any experience installing a keyless entry system in one?

smcallis, welcome to The Family. There is one way to tell if you have keyless entry in your car. If you're mechanically inclined at all, you can remove the passenger side kick panel near the door, there should be a black box secured there. Also the rear passenger trunk panel (where the spare tire is) will have a black box with some wires as well. I don't know for certain, but I think all 4th gen Camaros came with keyless entry. Check this out, www.installuniversity.com under the LSx install documents, you'll see a keyfob reset mod. Buy a keyfob and try resetting it. Might want to check fuses and stuff too.

Yeah it seemed strange to me too, but I guess Chevy doesn't technically list keyless entry as an option. I checked in the trunk and there was a small black box marked sensor. I tried the reset mod using two old remotes I had for my last car (an olds Alero, so still GM), but it didn't seem to work.

If your car came with keyless entry, it should have the alarm system also. If it does, there is a red light on top of you dash that will blink whenever the door is open. If your car has this light, it should have came with keyless entry.

then yes, your car did come with keyless entry. I wouldnt recommend going to the dealer to get one, unless they will give it to you free. You can find remotes alot cheaper on ebay, some of which will include programming instructions.

Cool, bought a new remote just now on EBay, we'll see how it goes when it gets here. Is there anyway I can get a new key for it though? The dealer only had the one...I imagine I'd have to ask Chevy for it and give them my VIN right?

there should be 2 keys for the car. 1 for the ignition and 1 for the doors. You will have to go to the dealer for the key for the ignition because of the chip. If you do not have any keys for the doors, you will have to give the dealer you vin for them to cut you one.

It might not work with the different remotes (certain Megahertz frequecies) also check your fuses to make sure they're good and the connections are good on both the alarm sensor and the keyfob sensor under the glovebox.
